Bank depositors "change the world"

2010-11-10

The global economic crisis could have a massive impact on the banking industry.

Because depositors are financial protected regardless of which bank their money sits, (see FDIC insurance) more and more depositors are looking to influence change by reallocating their deposits into institutions that are more closely aligned with their values.

Recently, SustainLINK, of New York introduced a qualitative process by which the public can compare banks based on a series of factors including; efficiency, processes, innovation, community engagement and external impact performance. The qualifiers are used to empower and inform depositors.

Several analysts interviewed regarding the potential impact have agreed that if this information gains traction, we could see massive depository shifting and political pressure for banks to adhere to the "standards of the customers".
